In this poem he uses some poetic devices. Three poetic devices that he employ be imagery, personification, and word selection. Imagery is visually descriptive or rhetorical language. The startle face of imagery in the poem is the number 1 and help line. Another example of imagery in the poem is in the first stanza. It says then with cracked hands that ached which makes me ensure speculative hands that are rough and dry. Personification is the attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman. The first example of personification in the poem is in the second stanza. It says Id w ake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. The cold finisht splinter and it cant break.

Word filling is a term used to describe the words chosen by an author, using words that are very ad hoc and descriptive of exactly what you want to say.
